IAFF Center of Excellence Hosting Online Education Series 07/03/20 - UPFFA
The IAFF Center of Excellence for Behavioral Health Treatment and Recovery is hosting an online education series for IAFF members, other first responders, healthcare providers, clinicians and the community at large.
PPFFA Challenge Coin 07/03/20 - Pennsylvania Professional Fire Fighters Association
We are taking pre-orders for this new challenge coin. The cost for the coin will be $10 and the proceeds will go to the PPFFA Fallen Fire Fighters Memorial in Harrisburg. Supply will be limited to 1000 coins each with it's own number from 1-1000 (we can not guarantee you a specific number).
Chatfield State Park Brush Fire 07/02/20 - South Metro Firefighters IAFF LOCAL 2086
Just before 3 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, Local members responded to a brush fire at the Chatfield State Park Campground. A plume of smoke was visible from several miles away. Park Rangers evacuated the immediate area and the Douglas County contract helicopter was launched as a precaution.
West Davies Ave. Structure Fire 07/02/20 - South Metro Firefighters IAFF LOCAL 2086
At 9:43 p.m. on Wednesday July 1, 2020, Local members responded to their second working house fire of the night, this time in the 2100 block of West Davies Avenue in Littleton. The 911 caller reported a power outage and possible electrical fire in the home. First arriving members encountered light smoke filling the street and advanced a hose line inside.
Appleton Cir. Structure Fire 07/02/20 - South Metro Firefighters IAFF LOCAL 2086
Just after 8 p.m. on Wednesday July 1, 2020, Local members responded to a report of haze and smoke odor inside a home at 7044 E. Appleton Circle in Centennial. When members arrived, there was nothing visible from the street, but smoke was found inside. After investigating, a neighboring unit was found charged with smoke and a full structure fire response was dispatched.
Elmhurst Dr. Brush Fire 07/02/20 - South Metro Firefighters IAFF LOCAL 2086
At 3:45 on Wednesday afternoon, Local members responded to numerous reports of a brush fire burning in the open space behind 7573 W. Elmhurst Drive in Jefferson County. Upon arrival, gusty winds were spreading the fire at a moderate rate, prompting a call for more equipment and personnel. By 4 p.m.
E470 Brush Fire 07/02/20 - South Metro Firefighters IAFF LOCAL 2086
At 11 a.m. on Wednesday July 1, 2020, Local members responded to a small brush fire burning in between E-470 and Liberty Blvd. west of Peoria St. When members from Engine 44 arrived on scene, they found 2-3 separate fires burning and spreading to the north of the highway. The fire was upgraded to a large brush fire, bringing additional suppression units to the scene.

Union Steward Seminar 07/01/20 - Denver Firefighters Local 858
Brothers and Sisters,
Due to the current pamdemic restrictions, we decided to have the Union Stewards Seminar separate from the Union Meeting. It will be held on July 22nd at 5 pm, and July 23rd at 8:30 am. We will meet at 12 Lakeside Lane, Denver, CO 80212 in the Union Office. We will provide pizza at the night meeting and breakfast burritos at the morning meeting.
Stop, Drop and Reel Fishing Derby 07/01/20 - IAFF Local 21
Derby Headquarters will be at the dock area of The Veteran’s Rest Camp on the southwest side of the lake. There is a launch there that we'll plan to use but it is shallow. If you have a bigger boat we recommend the public launch on the north end of the lake off Mayberry Trail, or the County Park just south of the Veteran's Rest Camp.

Chatridge Urban Interface Brush Fire 06/30/20 - South Metro Firefighters IAFF LOCAL 2086
Just before 10 a.m. on Monday June 29, 2020, multiple 911 callers reported a brush fire on the east side of Highway 85 at Chatridge Drive in Douglas County. When Local 2086 members arrived, they found several acres already burning with a flame front moving at a moderate to rapid rate of spread to the northeast.

The Norwalk Fire Department responded to kitchen fire in a 3rd floor apartment, of 9-11 Wall Street, at 5:39pm Thursday evening. Firefighters forced their way into the unoccupied apartment and finished extinguishing the fire, that the sprinkler had kept in check.

Cottonwood Dr. Extrication 06/25/20 - South Metro Firefighters IAFF LOCAL 2086
At 3:11 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24th, Local members responded to a collision involving an overturned vehicle on Cottonwood Drive just east of Chambers Road. Parker Police Officers were first to arrive, they found a truck on its side with heavy damage and the driver trapped inside. Stabilization struts were used to secure the truck so it wouldn’t move while members assessed the patient.

At 1:37 a.m. on Tuesday, June 23rd, Local members responded to a vehicle collision involving two structures on Kendall Court in Castle Pines North. The vehicle entered a garage and drove through a wall, damaging 3 separate garages in the building.

A good deed for an elderly couple doubled as a training opportunity for South Metro’s Technical Rescue Team today. When Local members responded to a medical emergency at a home in Centennial, they noticed dangerous structural damage above the front door from shifting soil.

The postponed June Central Pennsy Meeting has been scheduled for June 30th in Harrisburg.
The meeting will begin with a social hour at 6:00pm, meal at 7:00pm, and the meeting at 8:00pm. The event will be held at Local 428's Union Hall which is located at 2048 Derry St. Harrisburg, PA 17104.

Two Springfield firefighters were injured while ventilating a roof at a fire on 859 Armory St. The fire displaced the seven residents.

Springfield firefighters were called to a Forest Park home late Tuesday following a report of a fire.
University Blvd Shed Fire 06/16/20 - South Metro Firefighters IAFF LOCAL 2086
At 6:17 p.m. on Sunday June 14, 2020, Local members responded to a reported house fire at 6350 S. University Blvd. in Centennial. While enroute, crews observed a plume of smoke from several blocks away. Upon arrival, members found one shed fully engulfed with fire, extending to another shed and fence. The fire was quickly extinguished, no injuries occurred, and the home was not damaged.
Big Stone Drive Structure Fire 06/16/20 - South Metro Firefighters IAFF LOCAL 2086
Working smoke alarms alerted a family to fire burning in their garage just after 2 a.m. on Sunday June 14th. Local members responded to the home on Big Stone Drive in Douglas County and found smoke visible on arrival. Members cut a large hole in the garage door to access the fire, which was quickly extinguished.
Academy 20-1 Hell Night 06/16/20 - South Metro Firefighters IAFF LOCAL 2086
During the evening of Friday June 12th into the early morning hours of Saturday June 13th, South Metro Fire Academy Recruits from class 20-1 experienced “Hell Night.” A long-standing tradition at SMFR, the night is filled with a variety of training calls that put the soon to be probationary firefighters to the test.
Norwood Drive Brush Fire 06/16/20 - South Metro Firefighters IAFF LOCAL 2086
At 12:46 p.m. on Saturday, June 13th, Local members responded to a vegetation fire along the railroad tracks west of Norwood Drive and Highway 85 in Douglas County. Members found a slow-moving grass fire and used hand tools and water pump backpacks to extinguish it. No structures were threatened, and no injuries occurred.
Chatfield State Park Water Rescue 06/16/20 - South Metro Firefighters IAFF LOCAL 2086
In the afternoon of Saturday, June 13th, Local 2086 and 1309 members responded to Chatfield State Park for two people in the water, in distress. One victim was quickly rescued by Park Rangers and brought to shore where members transported them to the hospital. The second victim went under water and did not resurface.
Cherry Creek State Park Dive Response 06/16/20 - South Metro Firefighters IAFF LOCAL 2086
At 9:46 a.m. on Saturday, June 13th, Local members responded to the west boat ramp at Cherry Creek State Park to assist Rangers with a submerged boat trailer after a cable mishap. Divers attached a tow truck cable and the trailer was safely removed a short time later.

At 7:21 p.m. on Friday, June 12, 2020, Local 2086 and 1309 member responded to a vegetation fire just east of the Audubon Center at Chatfield, located near Wadsworth Blvd. and Waterton Rd. Smoke was visible from several miles away and when members arrived, they were faced with challenging access problems.
Mountain Vista Brush Fire 06/16/20 - South Metro Firefighters IAFF LOCAL 2086
At 11:16 p.m. on Friday, June 12, 2020, Local members responded to multiple reports of a large vegetation fire burning in the open space west of Mountain Vista High School in Highlands Ranch. When members arrived, they found approximately 3-acres of grass and brush burning in rugged terrain with gusty wind conditions.

The recruits of Academy 20-1 have continued to work hard and train through the recent challenges, restrictions and protocol changes of the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite having to be split up into smaller groups, training on drill grounds in both Parker and Littleton, they come together in their joint efforts of preparing to join the South Metro line with a commitment of keeping the community safe.

At 09:07 a.m. on Thursday June 11, 2020, Local members responded to a reported garage fire at 9880 Castle Ridge Circle in Highlands Ranch. Smoke was visible from the garage when members arrived, the occupants reported everyone was outside, but two cats were still inside the house. Members used a chainsaw to cut the garage door that wouldn’t open and quickly extinguished the fire.
